(SA) With German registration plates, the new all-electric Ford Explorer rolled into the area of Tune Handelspark on 1 May. The car parked outside the Extra store open on Sunday at 3.25pm.

The new car will not be launched in Norway until this summer.

Ford opened its new Explorer electric car for orders at the end of March, and thus also published both prices and final specifications for what they believe is one of the year’s big car news in Europe.

They opened for orders on the same day that adventurer Lexie Alford, behind the wheel of the all-electric Ford Explorer, set a new record and became the first person to drive “around the world” in an electric car.

Adapted to the European market

In the past, the Explorer name has signaled an SUV over five meters long with seven seats, but the electric car version is a far more moderate donation that is only intended for Europe.

The car is in many ways a sister model to Volkswagen’s ID. 4, Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4 e-tron, as Ford has bought access to the Volkswagen group’s MEB platform.

The car is accused by some car journalists of being a facelifted VW ID. 4 wrapped in American clothes.

In any case, the European customers have high expectations, and Ford believes that the new all-electric SUV has been specially developed according to the wishes and needs of European customers.

Car tests in Scandinavia

The new Ford Explorer is built at Ford’s factory in Cologne, Germany, where Ford has its electrification centre.

It is not unusual for car manufacturers to test cars in the far north in Norway, Sweden and Finland, especially in winter. As a rule, most of the cars are highly camouflaged, and stand out, not unnaturally, in the crowd of cars traveling on the Scandinavian roads.

However, the car that was spotted on Wednesday afternoon was not camouflaged, but was, as mentioned, German registered. So it could probably be a German tourist who is passing through Norway, and happened to make a shopping stop in Sarpsborg. Or it could be a car test. This is information the newspaper does not know.

– The most important car news for us

But what SA has received confirmation from the Ford team is that the car will be launched in Norway and Europe during the summer.

From the start, the car comes in two alternative versions, Explorer and Explorer Premium, but according to Ford, even the simplest version must be well equipped.

This is the most important and biggest electric car news for us in Norway and Europe for a long time, and represents something completely new in the segment, says CEO of Ford Motor Norway, Per Gunnar Berg.

With the new Ford Explorer, we offer an electric SUV that has a very good range both with and without four-wheel drive, quick fast charging in both summer and winter, and many smart solutions for a good driving experience, continues Berg.

– With a starting price of just NOK 399,000, this total package is definitely class-leading. This is a model we know many Norwegians have been waiting for, says Per Gunnar Berg in a press release from Ford Norway.
