That’s why Eva Mendes waited to have children

The Hollywood couple Eva Mendes (50) and Ryan Gosling (43) are known for protecting their privacy. They rarely pose for photos together, and are seen by many as the most media-shy couple in Hollywood.

The two actors have been together for a number of years, and have daughters Esmaralda Amada (9) and Amada Lee (8) together. The daughters were born in 2014 and 2016 respectively – when Mendes was in his 40s.

“Going to be so tired”

In a new interview with People, she candidly shares why she chose to wait to have children.

– When I was 40 it was a big deal for people that I was pregnant, which it wasn’t for me. And when I was 42 and expecting my second child, people said, “My God, you’re going to be so tired. That’s why people have children in their 20s.” I just thought, ‘That’s the saddest and stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,'” says Mendes.

Furthermore, the actress says that having children requires a lot of patience, which she did not have in her 20s.

– In my 20s I shouldn’t even have been around a child. I was just foul-mouthed and smoked. I could not have raised a child at any other time in my life than now.

Now the children are everything to her, and she points out that the decision to take a step back from her acting career to raise her daughters was not even a question.

New photos shock fans

– It was the easiest decision I have ever made. I was older, and I knew that my children are only going to be young once, and that what I choose to do – or not do – will affect them for the rest of their lives.

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes met during the filming of the movie “The Place Beyond the Pines”. Since then, they have kept their private lives close to their chests, and especially protected their daughters well.

“I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my husband and my children. Of course I want to talk about them, to a certain extent, but I don’t want to post pictures of our everyday life,” Mendes wrote in a post on Instagram in 2020, according to People.

“Since my children are still so young, and do not understand what posting pictures of them really means, I do not have their consent. And I won’t share pictures of them until they’re old enough to give me consent,” she continued.

– Would not have been here without her

People’s interview with Mendes comes just one day after Gosling spoke out about Mendes to Extra at the premiere of “The Fall Guy” in Los Angeles.

– She is with the girls, and when she is working I am at home with the girls. “I wouldn’t be here without her,” Gosling shared.

– I love him

The “Barbie” star was also able to reveal that Mendes is helping him become a better actor, describing her as “the best drama coach he’s ever had.”

There are probably several ardent fans who wonder why you never see the couple together on the red carpet. The last time they appeared on the red carpet together was to promote the film “The Place Beyond the Pines” in 2012 and 2013.

Last year, Mendes revealed why.

At the time, she shared a clip from the filming of the aforementioned film, where she and Gosling played lovers.

“Magic is real. We didn’t meet on set. The magic started long before, but here is a bit of magic captured on camera,” she wrote as text for the video.

Answered what “everyone” wonders about

The comments section quickly flooded in with questions from eager fans. Among other things, a fan asked if you were going to see Gosling and Mendes side by side again.

“I really hope ‘Barbie’ (Ryan Gosling’s film, journ.anm.) makes it through awards season just because I hope to see you with Ryan. I know I’m selfish and it’s probably just a dream, but I’ll never stop dreaming about it.”

To this Mendes replied:

“You are the best! What a cool comment, thank you so much. But we don’t do things like that together. These images that I’ve shared recently, I’m only comfortable sharing because they’re already out there.”

“Oh wait – for those who might be taking me for a ‘lie’ now. We have only been on the red carpet together once and that was when we were promoting this film,” she added.
